The MIT/Wellesley Upward Bound Program provides year-round educational support and college entrance counseling services to low-income and first-generation students in grades 9-12 who reside in Cambridge and attend Cambridge Rindge & Latin School. The goal of the Program is to generate in its participants, who often are not traditionally considered college-bound, the academic skills and motivation necessary to complete a program of secondary education and enter and succeed in a program of postsecondary education. Through academic year and summer sessions, the Program gives students opportunities to learn and grow through supervised study sessions, college and career advising workshops, college tours, and cultural and recreational field trips.
Upward Bound is looking for volunteer tutors to assist with after-school tutorial session during the academic year. Tutorial sessions run on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00pm-6:00pm and on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00pm-7:00pm. Tutors work with students individually and in small groups in all academic subjects and are asked to make a minimum 2-hour commitment at least one day each week.
