Dance for World Community/José Mateo Ballet Theatre

WHO WE ARE

Dance for World Community™ is a project presented by José Mateo Ballet Theatre that harnesses the vastly underutilized power of dance to improve the social and environmental health of our communities locally and beyond. Dance for World Community™ builds local and global networks and creates enduring partnerships across the public, private, and non-profit sectors. It invites, engages, and empowers everyone to participate in collaborative action and celebration for the well-being of children, their families, and their communities.Dance for World Community™ programs run year-round, and include:- TALKABOUTDANCE – an event that brings together artists, activists, and enthusiasts who believe that expanding the role of dance can help build stronger communities through a panel discussion and group conversations.- Dance Against Racism – an offshoot of the YWCA’s Stand Against Racism that provides a performance opportunity for youth dance groups of varied cultural backgrounds and experiences, as well as a moderated discussion on issues of race among participants.- The Annual DWC Festival Weekend – an indoor/outdoor celebration of dance in all forms and its power to strengthen communities, featuring performances, classes, film, conversation, and advocacy.
