Cambridge School Volunteers

WHO WE ARE

Founded in 1966, Cambridge School Volunteers (CSV) is an independent, non-profit organization supporting the academic and personal success of Cambridge public school students.CSV develops programs which match caring and competent adults with students of all needs and levels. Our professional staff oversee these programs and screen, match and place more than 900 volunteers annually. Volunteers work in all of the city’s public schools, at all grade levels; during the school day, and before and after school. Our talented volunteers range from high school peer tutors to community members in their eighties, and include working professionals, retirees, undergraduate and graduate students, parents, and others from Cambridge and surrounding communities.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers serve as individual or small-group tutors, classroom and library assistants, and special project leaders. CSV volunteers help K–8 students with basic subjects, including math and literacy. At the high school, volunteers tutor students individually for at least one semester in a particular subject; assist with college and other post-secondary program choices, applications, and essays; serve as a classroom assistant to a teacher; and coach small teams within the larger Science Olympiad team. CSV manages the CSV Tutoring Center at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School when school is not in session, and during the school day provides an academic support program.CSV’s corporate volunteer programs provide a way for companies to have their employees volunteer together throughout the school year.We welcome inquiries from new prospective corporate partners for our NetPals and Reading Buddies. Corporate partners may also send teams of volunteers to a nearby after-school Learning Center once a week.
