Amigos School or La Escuela Amigos School is a dual-language Cambridge Public School with a Spanish immersion program for grades K-8. Prior to this space being the Amigos School, it was the Graham and Parks School (now located on Linnaean St.)
The Graham and Parks School was named in honor of City Councillor and State Representative Saundra Graham and Civil Rights Activist Rosa Parks. Parks was a black seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama who was arrested December 1, 1955 for refusing to move to the back of the bus. Her arrest led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
The colorful tile mosaics on either side of the entrance were created by Judith Inglese, a muralist of national renown. She designed the School’s mosaic low enough so children can appreciate its tactile quality. The theme, harmony in diversity, depicts an urban landscape full of children playing, flying kites, and a school resembling Graham and Parks.
